COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream Review

COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream Review: Best Korean Sunscreen Ever?

By this time I am sure that everyone got it right – wearing sunscreen every day is essential to skin survival. What’s also essential is picking a sunscreen that works for your skin. As a picky person with sensitive skin, choosing the right go-to sunscreen can be a tough challenge.

Because most sunscreens could easily irritate your skin and leave it inflamed. And as a picky person, *SPOILER ALERT* this Korean COSRX Aloe Soothing sun cream is very close to being the perfect sunscreen for sensitive skin. Let’s dissect it a bit further in this COSRX sunscreen review.

About COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream

This is a lightweight daily sunblock that is formulated with aloe leaf extract. Aloe is really the star ingredient here which makes it suitable for sensitive skin too. It is hydrating, soothing, and doesn’t leave any white cast when applied.

The ingredient list of COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream

This sunscreen doesn’t have a long list of ingredients, but here are the main ones you need to know about:

Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S)

It is a broad-spectrum (meaning it protects both from UVA and UVB lights) sunscreen agent that performs fantastically. It is photostable, meaning, it is not affected by UV lights, and is truly one of the best agents out there in the skincare market.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Aloe vera)

The aloe is the star ingredient of this COSRX sunscreen which makes it a great choice for sensitive skin. It is well known that Aloe Vera promotes healthy skin, soothes the skin, and provides moisture. As a person with sensitive skin, I do really appreciate the cameo of the much-needed aloe.

Titanium Dioxide

If you have used a mineral sunscreen before, this name should be familiar. Titanium dioxide is widely used in mineral sunscreens (along with zinc oxide) and is suitable for all skin types. Unlike chemical agents that absorb the sun rays, these mineral agents work by forming a protective barrier on the skin by reflecting the UV rays.

Cetearyl Alcohol

Don’t freak out yet! This is good alcohol. Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol that is used in skincare to stabilize the products and it serves as an emollient. It is totally non-drying and non-irritating. If you are confused about alcohol in skincare, check out our blog post!

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate

It is extracted from licorice root and has a number of anti-inflammatory properties.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Mostly known as a form of the powerhouse antioxidant – Vitamin E. As a general rule, antioxidants fight against free radicals and their harmful effect on the skin.

Silica

This FDA-approved agent acts as a thickener in skin products. It helps the ingredients to be absorbed by the skin effectively. It is no coincidence that it is used with titanium dioxide here since it adds to its protective ability against damaging UV rays.

Caprylyl Glycol

Technically, it is derived from a fatty acid called caprylic acid that is found in coconut oil. CG is a very versatile agent in skincare: it works as a humectant (pulling moisture into the skin) and acts as one of the safest preservatives too.

Consistency of COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream

The consistency is very lightweight, and blends into the skin really well. Because of its creamy texture, it doesn’t leave the skin with a dry feeling.

It does give a bit of a glow to the skin which I don’t mind. Overall, I liked the consistency a lot, I think it is the best consistency for sensitive skin that needs that moisture.

Packaging & Scent

I like COSRX packaging because it is minimal, not over the top and very recognizable.

And this COSRX SPF is no exception. It comes in a sealed carton and the sunscreen itself comes with a black cap that is recyclable. I feel like the inclusion of the green sort of signifies aloe here, which is an important ingredient. It is quite portable and I haven’t experienced any leakage or any other problem.

Scent

Normally, I am not into scents in skincare. It is no secret that fragrances in skin products can be irritating. This sunscreen has a slight smell which I don’t mind at all. It has a very fresh smell, which is I guess because of aloe. You can definitely smell it while you are applying, but the good thing is it is not very overwhelming.

Who is COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream for?

This COSRX sunscreen is suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin. I feel like you have sensitive skin that is a bit on the dry side, you will love this for its nourishing quality.

If you have oily skin, it is not going to feel too heavy or greasy, so I think it is a win-win! And if you like mineral sunscreen agents like titanium dioxide, definitely give this one a try.

Overall impressions: Does COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream work?

The short answer is YES, COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream definitely works!

This wasn’t my first one, since I ran out of the first one months ago.

In my opinion, the main advantage of this sunscreen is its lightweight texture. It gets absorbed by the skin very easily and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. No white cast with this COSXR sunscreen!

I will be honest, I am too lazy to put a moisturizer on my face on really hot days, so I did use it as a moisturizer. I would sometimes apply it after applying MEDI PEEL Centella Mezzo Cream which is also great for sensitive skin. They did work great together without any pilling. However, I did experience some pilling when I used it after The Ordinary Niacinamide serum, I guess it wasn’t very shocking since it does tend to pill up.

It is also totally safe to use under the eyes! Remember, the undereye area is always the first area to show early signs of aging, so you need to protect it from UV rays at all costs. And, as a rule of thumb, you should reapply it every two hours.

Right off the bat, these are my overall impressions:

  • It is easily absorbed by the skin
  • It has a very lightweight texture
  • Leaves the skin hydrated and gives some glow
  • Is safe to use under the eyes
